Title : Reflection - Day Seven (24.11.10)

After the morning breakfast we headed for the bus. In nearly an hour’s time all the EVSS students reached the Dinosaur Valley. Every one was energetic and excited. We were eager to know what was going to happen.

At first, every one of us moved to the Dinosaur Valley Museum. That museum was a showcase for the dinosaur fossils. There were different kinds of dinosaur fossils. We were amazed by the different species of dinosaurs. After we had finished exploring the first dinosaur museum, we moved on to the next one. In that museum some dinosaur statues could move. Many students took pictures of themselves with the statues. Next on, we went to the dinosaur theatre. We watched the movie of the history of the dinosaurs.

After the movie, we moved on the most exciting and fun part. We went to the dinosaur theme park. The park was filled with many funfair items. Some of the students quickly ran to the park to play on the rides. Finally, everyone had a great time playing and spending time there. We also hoped we would visit this park again some day.

Title : Reflection - Day Six (23.11.10)

Have you ever wore an ethnic costume and dance ethnic dances with a group of friends together? We can vouch that it was a very fun experience. We wore different ethnic costume and dance two different dances, the Yi dance and the Dai dance. Everybody was very enthusiastic in dancing.

After the Dai dance, there was a performance put up by us and the Anning students. The performers and the emcees look confident and great while performing. There was a song performance out up by all the EVSS twinning students. While performing, Mrs Tan and our VP, Miss Teo, waved their hand along. All the teachers were singing along with us too. After the performance, we all felt a sense of satisfaction. All of our hard work and efforts we put in had really paid off. After the performance, we exchanged gifts with our buddy. We also danced the Yi dance together with our teachers and buddy.

While we were about to leave Anning, some of cried even when we were in the bus. Chuhui, Shahren and Nabihan even cried together in the bus. While the others like Fairuz, Saqinah, Mustaqim and Huijun comforted us and told us not to cry. What did this mean? This was what we called friendship. We shared our happiness together, cried together and comforted each other when we were sad.

Title : Reflection - Day Five (22.11.10)

All EVSS twinning students were heading off from the hotel to board the bus. We were very enthusiastic as we were visiting the rural primary school, Wenquan Primary school,  in Anning.

We finally reached the school and headed off to the students’ classrooms to carry our lessons on science experiments. Our first impression on the students was that they were very attentive and respectful to the person speaking in front. The students greeted us with a welcoming smile on their innocent faces. We were eager to teach them lessons. We carried out with our lessons after that. The students were able to understand. They raised up their hands whenever we asked for volunteers or questions.

Later on, the primary school students went for the games lessons carried out by the other groups. We also joined in together to play with them. After that, the students assembled at their quadrangle. Then, we started to proceed with our performance. The students were very interested and excited by the performance we put up. We finished performing our performances and had gave our level best.

Then, we headed to the Anning Middle School to learn Taiji. We thought it was easy to learn the steps. But it was not as it was extremely difficult. We tried to follow up master by imitating his steps.

After a long hour of flexible exercise,  we went for the most exciting part which is shopping. The mart was much similar to the Giant in siingapore. The shop sold many items for daily uses, we bought a lot snacks for our families and some souvenirs.

We had our one an a half hour shopping. It was an exciting trail. We loved the shopping very much.

Title : Reflection - Day Four (21.11.10)

Wow, what a beautiful sky… We are on the way to Kunming’s signature place – Stone Forest (Shilin). It was a wonderful experience because we as a group had the privilege to view stones which were formed naturally over the past 2.7 million years. We saw different formations of rocks which looked like a cat and an elephant. We were touched by the magnificent view of stones. There were many visitors around even though the weather was very hot but for us, it was clod. We had an unexpected experience.

Next up, we went to the Limestone Caves – (Jiuxiang). It was a long trip and a bit creepy. We had to go up and down the stairs countless times. At this moment, we actually felt the warmth and unity of East Viewians’ and we are proud to be an East Viewian.

Title : Reflection - Day Three (20.11.10)

Day 3 (20.11.2010)

Individual reflection for home visiting

Chuhui:

Yeeteng and I went to our buddy’s house for home visiting today. We had a opportunity to try to make dumplings together at her house with two of her buddy’s friend. We then stroll around outside to view the surroundings of her house.

If you have a chance to go to anning, then you should visit their park. It has a very nice view of a pool and the surroundings. The place was very attractive and the park is very different from the park in Singapore. If there is a chance, I would definitely go again.

Amanda:
Today was a day which I am looking forward very much – home visiting. We reach anning middle school at around 9.15am. we were told to pair up together ourselves. However, it must be a girl and a boy. I decided to pair up with shawn, after all , we were assigned to a boy, named YiLin. He was the emcee for yesterday’s performance, he brought us to meet his dad. His dad told us that he will be bringing us to a village’s house which is not far from school. When we arrived, we realise that we were joining carissa and wen zhao. We had a unexpected and wonderful experience there. There were many ancient architecture. I felt that I had went into a movie scene. The buildings there were so artistic. We will not be able to see such buildings in Singapore. Over there, we learned how to play Chinese chess, gu zheng and what are the different types of agriculture for. We had our lunch at the village. The vegetables are picked from their own farm. We had a wonderful time there and around the afternoon, we went to Yilin’s house. His house was just near the school. After the home visit, we went to Yunnan’s cultural village. There were various tribes people from Yunnan. It was an educational and special experience for us today.

Xiu Ping:
Wow what a beautiful sky… We are on the way to anning, to find our partner in order to conduct the home visit. It is a wonderful experience of making dumpling. Have you been to the Buddhist temple and went to their toilet? I was shock for what I have seen. THERE WERE NO DOORS IN EVERY CUBICAL. After that, we went to the villages and I saw those animals and plants. I felt that they were very hardy as the weather was so cold and yet they can still survive.

Vishva:
It was a cold breezy day. We filled up our stomach with sumptuous breakfast in the morning about 6.30am. After our breakfast, we aboard the bus on time. Within 40 minutes, we reached AnNing Middle School. At first, I thought that my buddy does not understand English but she manage to communicate with me. Then, we went to our buddy’s house and she introduces me to her mum. A few minutes later, we went outdoors with them. I was really joyful to where we are heading to. Later on, my buddy’s friends arrived. They were four of us including my buddy. My buddy introduced me to her friends. Her friends were really friendly as they treated us as their new members in their friendship bond. Those girls were an example for others, how we should respect each other. Also, they were persistent to communicate in English. i also tried to communicate with  them in Chinese. After a long trail, we went for some shopping and stroll along a park. The park was very clean just like Singapore. Then they brought us to a garden that is connected to the park. We had lots of fun at the garden. We went around the garden to took photos we also fed the fishes in the pond then we proceed back to my buddy’s house. We had a delightful lunch. When it is almost the time to leave, we present our gifts to our buddy. We also thanked my buddy’s friends. Lastly, we received our gifts from our buddy. We thanked her profusely.

Nabihan:

Today, we had an important event that we had to do. We had home visit with our buddies. My buddy is called Yan Yi Tong. So basically I would ask a few questions about him and his family. It was difficult for me to communicate with him because I could not speak Chinese and he can’t speak English. Luckily, I was not alone. I was paired up with Saqinah. The best thing is that when they brought us to Kunming’s Favourite Lake Park. It was so beautiful and attractive. It’s like 5 times bigger than Bedok Reservoir Park. It was about 40km. It takes us 2 hours to walk the whole park. Then, we went to eat lunch. After lunch, we spent our time playing sports like badminton with our buddies. It was a great experience.

Group reflection
After the wonderful experience, we headed towards the yunnan cultural village. We loved the place very much. The place was very attractive. We took many photos on the sceneries there. We was jubilant about the place that we visited. We hope that we could visit this place again.

“Welcome teachers and students from East View Secondary School …” This was a speech given by He Ming principal when we reached Anning Middle School. We were warmly welcomed with a series of performance put up by the Anning students.
After the performance, we proceed for the calligraphy class where everyone is trying their best to write out the 8 characters. We also went to the sports hall to have a lesson on long fist. The lesson was very fun as everybody gets crazy in jumping, bending our legs and shouting the word “HA!”.

Title : Reflection - Day One (18.11.10)

Day One (18.11.10)

Have you ever experienced an “amazing race” at an airport? Well, we experienced it. While we were taking our time strolling along the Suvarnaboohmi airport (Bangkok airport), shawn alerted us that it was the last call for the transit flight to kunming. Within 5 minutes, we had to ran through the airport as if we were having an amazing race and catch the plane. We were all worried that we will miss the flight. But after all the running, we managed to board the plane to kunming.

After reaching the hotel, the tour guide brought us out the hotel to familiarise with our surroundings. Along the way, we saw some kids selling flowers. They came forward to us and pestered us to buy one. One of the kids gave one flower to one of our members, huijun. When we saw this sight, we felt very pity for them as they do not have the opportunity for education just like us. Instead, they had to go out along the streets to sell flowers to earn money at such a young age.
